The European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG) is excited to announce its upcoming webinar on the topic: ‘Towards a continuum of care: Ensuring good mental health outcomes for people living with HIV’. This will take place on the 20th of February from 11:30 CET (Brussels time). This webinar targets stakeholders and organisations offering mental health services to people living with HIV. The aim of this webinar is to explore ways to ensure a more effective continuum of care as people living with HIV move across the various levels of the HIV and mental health systems. Highly experienced panellists’ will be providing their expertise, knowledge, and experience on this subject.
Reports have shown the importance of mental health awareness programs in the context of HIV work and EATG has been prioritising this issue for years. Through its Mental Health project and previous work, the organisation has been shining a light on the issue of mental health within HIV prevention, support, treatment, and care across Europe and Central Asia. Recently, the organisation expanded its engagement in HIV and mental health to a wider range of stakeholders.
The HIV & Mental Health Project aims to explore the existing knowledge and the interplay between mental health, well-being, and HIV and translate what is learned into practical recommendations for both community organisations and healthcare professionals in the European and Central Asian context.
The webinar will support awareness raising among mental health service providers on the complexity of living with HIV, and similarly, support HIV service providers to better appreciate the mental health needs of people living with HIV.
The webinar will draw on experiences and good practices from community-based, specialist, and hospital-based HIV and mental health service providers. With a focus on services for people living with HIV, the webinar presentations will discuss recent WHO guidance on HIV and mental health, how to effectively train and support non-professional and peer community mental workers, the challenges of providing mental health support within primary care, and managing mental health care across the health system.
